This website provides an overview of a the Children and Families of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds Mental Health Program, which has been established in recognition of the issues affecting the mental health and wellbeing of children (0-12 years) and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The program takes a population-based approach to mental health promotion initiatives, early intervention and the prevention of mental health problems for children and families. This program is a collaboration between the NSW Transcultural Mental Health Centre (TMHC), The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW)and the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Statewide Network (CAMHSNET).

Therapeutic Storytelling Intervention International
TSI is a therpeutic process developed by Ron Phillips that uses his Book "Gem of the First Water." TSI utilizes storytelling to guide adolescense or latency children on a journey of discovery and in some cases recovery. The story lends itself to questions and discussions. Because the format is externalized, listeners feel safe. The story uses a peer hero and as unfolds listeners see themselves in the literary characters' exploits. TSI avoids the ususal adolescent traps that end communication; "you should, you must, boy you better!or if you don't!" The story creates the segway for thinking and discussion.
