  • Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Center for Functional Imaging

  • The Center for Functional Imaging at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is involved in developing advanced positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) systems with capabilities beyond those currently envisioned for commercial implementation. The purpose of this research is to apply new technologies to the study of atherosclerosis, heart disease, aging, neurological and psychiatric diseases, and cancer. There is a major emphasis on mathematical modeling and statistical analyses. Early results of this instrumentation work included the first demonstration of the clinical usefulness of the Anger camera and the tomoscanner. More recently, quantitative reconstruction algorithms, new compartment modeling methods, and statistical models of dynamic PET have been developed.

  • Dilon Technologies LLC

  • Company description Dilon Technologies delivers on the promise of nuclear medicine in breast imaging: Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) is now possible with a functional imaging technology that has been proven to be an effective tool in the early detection of breast cancer and in the differentiation of malignant and benign tumors. The Dilon 6800 anatomic-specific portable gamma camera overcomes the size and acquisition limitations of standard gamma cameras; thus capturing vital tumor information by viewing the metabolism of cancerous lesions in the breast via radiopharmaceutical uptake. The novel camera can detect cancers as small as 3 mm, see lesions independent of tissue density and is capable of providing all the same views as mammography. Product Description: The Dilon 6800- a portable, small-field-of-view gamma camera, optimizing Breast-Specific gamma imaging and advancing nuclear imaging for noninvasive, early breast cancer diagnostics.

  • European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM)

  • The European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) was created in 1985 by the merging of two nuclear medicine societies in Europe. Its members are physicians, scientists, technologists or other persons working in Nuclear Medicine or related fields. Since 2001 the EANM has an Executive Secretariat in Vienna, which takes care of the day-to-day operations of the Association under the governance of the Executive Committee. In 2003 the scope of EANM activities was expanded by creating an EANM educational facility in Vienna, which meanwhile offers courses on Clinical PET, Technologists PET courses, Neuroimaging courses and Therapy/Dosimetry courses. EANM offers its members a wide variety of benefits such as: Reduced registration fees for all activities at the educational facility in Vienna (PET courses for Clinicians and Technologists, Neuroimaging Courses, Therapy/Dosimetry courses) Reduced fees for seminars held by the European School of Nuclear Medicine (ESNM) in Central & Eastern Europe Reduced registration fees at the Annual Congress, which brings together 3000-4000 participants from all over the world The subscription of the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine (EJNM) and personal online access to the EJNM The homepage www.eanm.org and access to the members area therein EANM is the network for the advancement of science and exchange of knowledge in Nuclear Medicine in Europe. If you would like more information on EANM, please continue reading this homepage or mail to the EANM Executive Secretariat at office@eanm.org

  • Book/Monograph: The Imaging of Tuberculosis

  • Against the background of AIDS, wars, migration, and the inadequate provision of health care, a very serious epidemic of tuberculosis is once again occurring worldwide. This profusely illustrated book, written by an author with immense personal experience in the field, documents the wide spectrum of tuberculosis encountered in the various organ systems, and correlates the images with clinical, laboratory, and histopathological findings. The value of the many different methods of imaging (radiography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, nuclear medicine scans) in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of tuberculosis is discussed and illustrated. The epidemiology of tuberculosis and its relationship with AIDS are also explored. This unique book will be of great value not only to radiologists but to all who encounter tuberculosis in their clinical practice.

  • Excerpt from the National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference Statement - 1984

  • Lack of risk has been assumed because no adverse effects have been demonstrated clearly in humans. However, other evidence dictates that a hypothetical risk must be presumed with ultrasound. Like-wise, the efficacy of many uses of ultrasound in improving the management and outcome of pregnancy also has been assumed rather than demonstrated, especially its value as a routine screening procedure.
