  • Sisters Without Borders, MADRE

  • MADRE is an international women’s human rights organization that works in partnership with women’s community-based groups in conflict areas worldwide. Sisters Without Borders is an overseas volunteer program for skilled professionals. When requested by our partners, MADRE arranges for bilingual (except Kenya), culturally competent volunteer professionals to work with women and children and provide assistance to staff and community leaders at our sister organizations in Guatemala, Mexico; Nicaragua, Peru and Kenya. MADRE is currently looking for health care volunteers with skills in general medicine, pediatric medicine, nursing, midwifery and dentistry. Sisters Without Borders volunteers cover their own travel costs and living expenses and must have credentials and experience in the field in which they would like to work. Fluency in Spanish (except Kenya), and a time commitment of at least 3-6 months, is required. However, under certain circumstances, volunteer opportunities with a time commitment of one month or less may be arranged for advanced professionals, such as physicians and nurses, with necessary language skills and experience working abroad. If you are interested in becoming a Sisters Without Borders volunteer, please contact MADRE at 212.627.0444 or volunteers@madre.org. We also encourage you to visit our website at www.madre.org to learn more about our programs and sister organizations.
